Professional Biography

I received an M.A. degree in Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language at the University of Iowa where I taught Japanese language courses as a teaching assistant. I also have taught Japanese language courses at Dillard University in New Orleans, Louisiana, and Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, and the summer intensive course at International Christian University (ICU) in Tokyo, Japan. I also earned two certificates in Teaching Japanese Language from Seikei University and KCP International Language School, both of which are located in Tokyo, Japan. I am a trained oral proficiency interviewer (OPI) in Japanese language by the American Council on Teaching Foreign Languages (ACTFL).
I endeavor to bring to each of my classes a communicative atmosphere and learning based on the idea that language is a tool of communication. I organize each class to encourage lively interactive communication that is meaningful to students as they develop their language proficiency. Cultural aspects are also integrated into my classes to raise students’ awareness of linguistic environments and to build their sense of global citizenship.

Research

My research interests are second language acquisition and language pedagogy.
