Professional Biography

I was born in Tehran, Iran. I received my B.A. in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from Jundi Shapur (Shahid Chamran) University, Iran, and my M.A. in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from Allameh Tabatabi University, Iran, as well. I completed my Ph.D. in Foreign Language Education at the University of Texas at Austin, with a concentration on Persian Studies. I started teaching Persian as a foreign language when I began my studies at the University of Texas at Austin, and have been a teacher of Persian language and culture ever since. My research interests include Iranian cultures, Cultures and Languages across the Curriculum, foreign language pedagogy, technology in the foreign language classroom, and second language acquisition. I hope to establish a Persian minor at UNC-Chapel Hill allowing students to explore Persian history, language, literature, music, arts, and culture in all their magnificent splendor and diversity.
