Students from the Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (DAMES), the Global MA Program, and the TransAtlantic Masters Program (TAM) took part in the inaugural Global Graduate-Student Symposium at UNC-CH on March 3rd, 2023. Focusing on democracy’s decline, the symposium featured Professor Urban Strandberg from the University of Gothenburg delivering a keynote, and graduate students from the three aforementioned MA programs (including recent graduate Samir Sefiane, who I recently interviewed here) gave presentations.
Tarek Elsayed organized the symposium, and said of the proceedings, “It was very fun to organize and attend, and I think the hope is that it becomes an annual event.”
