ASIA 243-01W: Asian Societies: Journalism and Society in India and Pakistan

This hybrid course will meet online via Zoom on Thursdays 4:15-6:15; the rest of the instruction will be asynchronous.

“Journalism and Society in India and Pakistan” explores modern social issues through the lens of print and broadcast journalism in South Asia.  We will cover five main themes: Gender and Sexuality, Politics and Corruption, Religion, Caste, and Nationality, topics which intersect with some of the more significant fault-lines in modern Indian society.  We will analyze how these themes are interpreted by South Asian media.
