NOTE: All courses this summer will be online/remote, but in different ways:

  • Meeting online at the scheduled time, so much like a regular class, but remote.
  • Meeting mainly online at the scheduled time, but with alternatives (such as recorded classes) so that students who can’t show up online at that time can still take the class.
  • Entirely asynchronous, with online learning activities that allow students to participate on a flexible schedule.
  • Hybrid with some real-time online meetings and some asynchronous activities.

Maymester (all courses in English)

ASIA 150-01M: Asia: An Introduction, Dixon, MTWRF 11:30-2:45. This class will meet online via Zoom during its scheduled time, but will also offer alternatives for asynchronous learning to students unable to participate at the scheduled time.

ASIA/JWST/PWAD 235-01M: Israeli Cinema: Gender, Nation, & Ethnicity, Shemer, MTWRF 11:30-2:45. This class will meet online via Zoom every day for its scheduled time.

ASIA 262-01M has been cancelled.

Summer Session I

Courses in English

ASIA 124-01W: Iranian Post-1979 Cinema, Yaghoobi. This is a completely asynchronous online course.

ASIA 228-01W: Contested Souls: Literature, the Arts, and Religious Identities in Modern India, Taj. This hybrid course will meet online via Zoom on Wednesdays 3-5; the rest of the instruction will be asynchronous.

ASIA 243-01W: Asian Societies: Journalism & Society in India & Pakistan, Caldwell. This hybrid course will meet online via Zoom on Thursdays 4:15-6:15; the rest of the instruction will be asynchronous.
This course counts for the interdisciplinary Asian Studies and South Asian Studies majors.

CHIN 150-01W: Introduction to Chinese Civilization, Hsiao. This is a completely asynchronous online course.

CHIN 255: Bandit or Hero: Outlawry in Chinese Literature and Film, Hsiao. This is a completely asynchronous online course.

CHIN 101-001: Elementary Chinese I, Zhou. This intensive hybrid course will meet online via Zoom every day (MTWRF) from 1:15-3:15, and will have an hour’s worth of additional asynchronous learning activities every day.
