“Media Masala” explores different types of print, broadcast and digital media in South Asia, examining various cultural phenomena (bands and music videos, television dramas and reality shows, radio, sports, yoga, and the Internet) through a number of interpretive lenses, including history, gender, sexuality, globalization, religion (personal and public), and activism. You’ll find this seminar interesting and fun if you like to consider a variety of sources –multimedia and textual – in thinking about a provocative issue or question.   Each student designs a short research project and makes a presentation, giving the class a variety of perspectives on the media in modern India and Pakistan.  This course is in seminar format, meaning that the main focus is on student-led discussion and presentations rather than lectures by the professor.
