Course surveys the cultural, political, and economic forces shaping Asia and the Middle East. Colonialism, empire, war, nationalism, religion, environment, globalization, capitalism, media, gender, sexuality, and family are critical facets of mapping the broad historical sweep of Asia and the ME. Key questions about knowledge, modes of historical narrative, lived experience, and voice are encountered through formal scholarship, films, art, graphic novels, and music.
