Professional Biography
I received my Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the School of Education at UNC-Chapel Hill, and M.A. in Journalism and M.A. in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language from the University of Iowa. Before coming to the U.S., I worked as a radio host and journalist at Fujian Provincial Radio Station in China for five years.
I have taught Chinese language courses at all levels at UNC-Chapel Hill. I also tutored students at the United Nations Chinese Programme during a summer internship in 2010. My teaching strengths include technology-enhanced curriculum design, task-based instruction, and assessment using ACTFL proficiency standards.
I am the Chinese placement coordinator and a Study Abroad Advisory Board member at UNC- Chapel Hill. I also serve as the Vice-Chair of the ACTFL Research Special Interest Group and the Treasurer of the Chinese Language Teachers Association of North Carolina.
Research
My current research interests include reading strategies of heritage language learners, Chinese oral proficiency assessment, and L2 teacher education.
