In this course, we will explore historical, political, social, and educational contexts of the Korean Diasporas and uniqueness and commonalities among various Korean diasporic communities in regions such as China, Russia and Central Asia, Japan, and Americas. In addition, the course will pay heed to contemporary trends and issues of Korean diasporas. In particular, we will explore issues of ethnic identity, citizenship, belonging, and language. This course incorporates multiple genres of materials such as films, narratives, essays, research based academic writings to enrich students’ understanding of the Korean diasporas.
